Internal fit out

The internal fitout, as I mentioned on the previous page, took a lot of planning to get right. That planning however was entirely worth it. Walthers’ designers either by accident or design allowed for just the right tolerance between the rear of the brick moulding (the outer wall) and the inner strengthening fillers to allow evergreen shapes to be glued in place flush. Allowing a one piece, flat and seamless inner wall to be glued in with ease.

The truck dock is completed in this shot. Other work continues to ready the walls for an interior sheeting.

The final installment the H beams for the roof. These play a part in ensuring that the roof stays out where it is supposed to, stiffening the structure in the process, and will carry the bus bars for lighting later on in the build.

When you have an arch (which is just a part of a circle) and you want to use a straight part to fill it, here’s a great trick: use your hobby knife to cut into the outside to cause a curve.

And the results speak for themselves.

Doors were cut out using a #11 blade. The doorways were lightly scored from the outside until they literally fell out. Little sanding was required to finish the doorways.

The first part of the sheeting has gone in. Notice that the truck access doors were not cut out first.

My first idea for an internal stiffener as the walls began to bow inward during the work on the interior. This was not used in the end. Other options came into play.

Uprights for the truck dock doors are going in. They were easy to to and the tops were cut and vurved for the top plate to go in and seal the door opening.

The office is getting a window treatment in this shot. A little more work to do, however, most of the evergreen shapes are in place.
